I.P. Park is a strategic and operational senior level technology executive with deep and broad experience creating technical innovation, directing R&D, leading innovative organizations, and translating technical innovation into profitable business impact at Fortune 500 companies. He has achieved his ranking in the top 50 CTOs by ExecRank among Fortune 500 companies by leading world class R&D teams to develop innovative technologies in Cloud Computing, Smart Connectivity and User Experience for mobile phones, smart TVs, connected cars, consumer and professional audio; developing numerous "first in industry" products for smartphones, connected cars, smart audio, aviation, robots, IoT, cyber security, and artificial intelligence; forging major enduring academic and industry collaboration partnerships; and increasing revenues through securing patents and IP monetization strategy. Of tremendous value is the global market perspective he has gained running diverse businesses in Korea, United States, Germany, China, India and Russia.
I.P. is currently Executive Vice President of Software Center at LG Electronics, leading the company in R&D for all aspects of software technologies and innovations, including but not limited to, software platforms, IoT platforms, Cloud software, intelligence software, data analytics, cyber security and software services. They constitute major innovative features, solutions and services for LG’s TVs, Signage, smartphones, smart appliances, automotive infotainment, safety and telematics business.
Prior to joining LG, I.P. was Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Harman International [NYSE: HAR] from 2012 to January 2016, during which, I.P. created and executed the company's technology strategy and was responsible for overseeing all R&D activities. As a member of the Executive Committee, he led advanced research projects to bring innovative thought leadership into the company's products and solutions – and directed all technology development to grow the company from $3.8B to $7B in revenue, and from 11,000 to 28,000 employees.
Prior to joining Harman, I.P. was Vice President of Intelligent Computing Laboratory at Samsung Electronics from 2006 to 2011. Living in Seoul, Korea, he headed advanced software R&D teams to develop Samsung’s future software technologies; provided company-wide leadership in core software research, standardization and open source activities; and founded Samsung’s joint research lab with Georgia Tech and with Seoul National University.
From 2001 to 2006, I.P. was Lead Scientist and then Department Head of Platform and Security Technologies at Panasonic in their Princeton Laboratory, where he worked in areas of operating system security, embedded Linux systems, and secure download for software-defined radio – and was instrumental in establishing an international open source community called CE Linux Forum, an industry alliance of 60+ companies to develop and standardize Linux for consumer electronics.
From 1999 to 2001, I.P. was Director and then Senior Director of Software Development at Timecruiser Computing Corporation, an Internet software company specializing in building Java-based enterprise systems, where his team successfully developed and launched two major products, which quickly became the nation’s top education enterprise portals. Earlier in his career, I.P. was a faculty member at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in the computer science department. During this period, he was also a visiting researcher at Bellcore.
I.P. received B.S. in Computer Science from Seoul National University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University.
