JB Straubel is the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) and Co-founder of Tesla, Inc., “the #1 Most Innovative Company in the World,” according to Forbes. At Tesla, JB manages the technical direction and engineering design of the Tesla products including battery technology, power electronics, motors, software, firmware and controls. Most of all, JB also creates and manages many important Tesla´s initiatives. First of all: Tesla Energy business providing grid storage for commercial utilities and residential consumers. Another: the worldwide Tesla Supercharger network of fast DC chargers. Finally: the Tesla Gigafactory which is leading the way toward increasing worldwide battery production and lowering the cost per kWh. Furthermore, he also has responsibility for new technology evaluation, R&D, technical diligence review of key vendors, and building partner relationships.
In addition to his work at Tesla, JB has also served on the Board of Directors for Solar City, the leading US residential solar company, since their founding. Furthermore, he is a lecturer at his alma mater, Stanford University. He created there and also teaches an engineering class and lab focused on energy storage integration (CEE 176C) in the Engineering Department. In 2017, JB has also co-founded Redwood Materials, a startup focusing on advanced technology and process development for materials recycling, remanufacturing, and reuse.
JB has had a lifelong interest in electric vehicles, also including rebuilding an electric gold cart at the age of 14, an Electric Porsche 944. As a result it held a world EV racing record, solar car racing and building a hybrid trailer system that he designed while in college. Consequently, in 2008, the MIT Technology Review chose JB as “#1 Innovator of 35 under 35 for the year”. Furthermore, in 2009 DesignNews named him “Engineer of the Year”. Finally in 2015 he was listed as #2 on Fortune’s 40 under 40 most influential business and innovation leaders. JB is an inventor on over 30 patents covering most areas of Tesla’s core battery, motor and controls systems.
He received a BS in Energy Systems Engineering and also an MS in Energy Engineering, emphasis on energy conversion, both from Stanford University. Furthermore, outside of Tesla Motors, Straubel is also an active cyclist and pilot and holds private pilot, instrument, glider and multi-engine ratings.

DJ Patil is perhaps the most influential data scientist in the world. Having been appointed by President Obama as the very first U.S. Chief Data Scientist, he was tasked with making the largest organization in history—the U.S. Federal Government—a data driven enterprise.
Working directly with the highest ranking officials in government, DJ’s efforts led to the establishment of nearly 40 Chief Data Officer roles across a vast array of departments and programs. He helped establish new health care programs including the Precision Medicine Initiative and the Cancer Moonshot, new criminal justice reforms including the Data-Driven Justice and Police Data Initiatives that cover more than 94 million Americans, and led the policy efforts related to national data. Patil’s experience in national security initiatives is extensive, and for his efforts was awarded by Secretary Carter the Department of Defense Medal for Distinguished Public Service which the highest honor the department bestows on a civilian.
In the private sector, he led the product teams at RelateIQ which was acquired by Salesforce, was founding board member for Crisis Text Line which works to use new technologies to provide on demand mental and crisis support, and was a member of the venture firm Greylock Partners. He has also was Chief Scientist, Chief Security Officer and Head of Analytics and Data Product Teams at the LinkedIn Corporation, where he co-coined the term “Data Scientist.” He has also held a number of roles at Skype, PayPal, and eBay.
As a member of the faculty at the University of Maryland, his research focused on nonlinear dynamics and chaos theory and he helped start a major research initiative on numerical weather prediction. As an AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow for the Department of Defense, Dr. Patil directed new efforts to leverage social network analysis and the melding of computational and social sciences to anticipate emerging threats to the US. He has also co-chaired a major review of US efforts to prevent bioweapons proliferation in Central Asia and co-founded the Iraqi Virtual Science Library (IVSL). In 2104 he was selected by the World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader and is also a Member of the Council of Foreign Relations.

Dr. Alex Jinsung Choi is serving as CTO, Executive Vice President and Head of Corporate R&D Center. Dr. Choi joined SK Telecom in 2012 as Executive Vice President and Head of Technology Strategy Office. He is responsible for building the company’s technology roadmaps and strategies aimed at securing technology leadership in the rapidly-evolving mobile marketplace. In line with the company’s efforts to open a new 5G era, his focus is currently on developing next generation network and future ICT technologies including 5G, NFV/SDN, SDDC, Hadoop, Cloud & Big Data, Quantum Communication, Video Cloud, Media and IoT.
Choi has over 20 years of experience in the mobile telecommunications industry. Before joining SK Telecom, he held various key positions at LG Electronics including EVP & Head of Mobile Communications Business Unit, EVP & Head of Mobile Core Technology Lab and SVP & Head of Next-Generation Telecommunications Lab. Choi is credited with developing the world’s first LTE handset modem chip and launching LG’s first Android smartphone. As a member of the Executive Committee, he led advanced research projects to bring innovative thought leadership into the company's products and solutions – and directed all technology development to grow the company from $3.8B to $7B in revenue, and from 11,000 to 28,000 employees.
Prior to joining Harman, I.P. was Vice President of Intelligent Computing Laboratory at Samsung Electronics from 2006 to 2011. Living in Seoul, Korea, he headed advanced software R&D teams to develop Samsung’s future software technologies; provided company-wide leadership in core software research, standardization and open source activities; and founded Samsung’s joint research lab with Georgia Tech and with Seoul National University.
From 2001 to 2006, I.P. was Lead Scientist and then Department Head of Platform and Security Technologies at Panasonic in their Princeton Laboratory, where he worked in areas of operating system security, embedded Linux systems, and secure download for software-defined radio – and was instrumental in establishing an international open source community called CE Linux Forum, an industry alliance of 60+ companies to develop and standardize Linux for consumer electronics.
From 1999 to 2001, I.P. was Director and then Senior Director of Software Development at Timecruiser Computing Corporation, an Internet software company specializing in building Java-based enterprise systems, where his team successfully developed and launched two major products, which quickly became the nation’s top education enterprise portals. Earlier in his career, I.P. was a faculty member at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) in the computer science department. During this period, he was also a visiting researcher at Bellcore.
I.P. received B.S. in Computer Science from Seoul National University, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University.

Kathryn Parsons is co-founder and CEO of Decoded, a technology education company founded in East London in 2011, which launched with the promise to teach anyone Code in a Day. DongGun Kam received the B.S. degree in physics with a double major in electrical engineering, the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering, all from KAIST, Daejeon, Korea in 2000, 2002, and 2006, respectively. From 2007 to 2011, he worked at the IBM Watson Research Center, Yorktown Heights, NY, USA, concentrating on the subsystem design and analysis of high-speed links. In 2011, he joined Ajou University, Suwon, Korea. His research interests include artificial intelligence and high-performance computing systems. Dr. Kam is currently an Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Components, Packaging and Manufacturing Technology. He was a recipient of the 2008 DesignCon Paper Award; a recipient of the 2011 Pat Goldberg Memorial Award for the best paper in CS, EE, and Math within IBM Research; and a recipient of the 2013 CPMT Outstanding Young Engineer Award.
